Dr. Ahmad Shah, DVM, Hospital Director and Founder

Our veterinarian Dr. Shah treats birds, cats, dogs, rabbits and exotics, but his previous experience includes treating large animals such as water buffalo and Arabian horses.

A native of Pakistan, Dr. Shah immigrated to America and quickly became adept at using cutting-edge equipment to ensure the advanced treatment and comfort of all animals.

Dr. Shah has been a practicing veterinarian since 1982. With a true passion for animals, he treats every Marriottsville Animal Hospital client like a member of his own family.

Dr. Timothy L. Pinkham, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Pinkham has lived in Maryland for a majority of his life. Having grown up in a loving military family living on and locally around Ft. Meade.

In his undergraduate years Dr. Pinkham attended the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) where he pursued a integrated pre-professional animal sciences/agricultural degree.

In adjunct to his professional pursuance Dr. Pinkham worked as a registered technician for (UMCP) and additionally worked as a veterinary technician for several local animal hospitals.

One of very few, his hard work and dedication allowed early matriculation into veterinary school.

He is a proud graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, having completed his clinical rotation at Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He feels blessed for the many unique experiences and training he has had in the veterinary field allowing him to become accustomed to all creatures great and small.

Dr. Pinkham will love to see you at your next visit as he is very passionate about his profession and will always be there as an advocate and healer for your beloved pets.

Dr. H. A. Pooya, DVM, Veterinarian / Surgeon

As Veterinarian / Surgeon at Marriottsville Animal Hospital,  Dr. Pooya performs orthopedic and soft tissue surgical case consultations, diagnostics, and surgeries; administers postoperative care; and conducts long-term management of patients.

Dr. Pooya recently returned to Maryland, where he was born and raised, after 16 years of education and training all across the U.S.

Dr. Pooya has authored numerous publications in various veterinary journals, many of which have been presented at international surgical conferences.

  • Completed an orthopedic fellowship at the J.D. Wheat Veterinary Orthopedic Laboratory at University of California Davis
  • Member of Phi Zeta (the National Veterinary Honor Society)

Valerie Miller, Pet Hospital Supervisor

With 35 years in the veterinary field, Valerie has gained experience in all aspects of veterinary medicine, especially through working in pet emergency services. In the past, she has supervised a staff of approximately 50 employees.

According to Valerie, “From cleaning a cage, to training an employee or assisting in surgery, I am at the peak of my profession and thrive on the diversity it entails. I am so fortunate to have the passion and love for a profession that is so rewarding.”

  • 35 years in various veterinary positions

  • Graduated from Camden County College with an Associate’s in Science

Melinda Gilmer, Veterinary Technician

Melinda shares her love for animals as they have always been a big part of her life. She is familiar with working with many species of animal and has pursued and obtained a bachelor’s degree in the animal sciences. Melinda is a Maryland native and is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland College Park, “Go Terps!”

Melinda is a much needed addition to the Marriottsville Animal Hospital team, contributing both her knowledge base and experience. Melinda is a very active individual working several jobs in her off hours. Despite the busy schedule Melinda enjoys most, the time spent with her puppy Mabel as well as caring for her horses.

Norine Kirby, Veterinary Technician

Norine Kirby has more than 5 years of experience volunteering and working at a local animal shelter. After completing the Vet Tech Assistant Course in 2012, she worked as a vet tech assistant and surgical assistant in the spay and neuter center. Norine lives in Marriottsville with her husband and has three grown daughters and one grandchild. She enjoys working as a volunteer with several Pitt Bull rescue organizations, as well as spreading the word about the importance of spaying & neutering animals and seeking homes for animals in need.

Jamie Hess, Veterinary Technician

Jamie is an integral member of the Marriottsville Hospital Team. Jamie has had a distinct passion for the veterinary field, having dedicated over 10 years work experience as a veterinary technician. Her many years of experience have been spent in various clinical/hospital settings. Jamie shows great dedication to her craft, while being empathetic towards any pet/client that arrives through our doors.

On Jamie’s off hours she enjoys arts/crafts and cooking. Most of all Jamie enjoys time spent with her pet family, the dynamic feline duo Jenkins and Cameron, as well as her pet rat Rza.

Madeleine Chausse, Veterinary Technician

Maddie started as an intern in 2012 and is now a veterinary technician. Excited about a career working with animals, she is majoring in Pre-Veterinary Studies at Wilson College.
